Storm Dreamer
Aboriginal (spiritually-centred) culture is dying, slowly but surely withering within most who claim such heritage — contaminated, corrupted, polluted — disappearing before my living eyes. My heart, my spirit ‘sings’ when ever I have the opportunity to get a glimpse of its remnants, its power, its potency within those few who still struggle to embody the essence of this most ancient ways of relating and living amongst these modern daze.
The younger ones mostly want to be “rappers”, get down, and boogie, in acculturated and soul-numbing manner. It is the ways of these times, no fault nor blame, it just is for most.
For years I have pined the loss of the spiritual-centre of the Aborigines and their cultural Laws and principles. A loss not only to those of the Aboriginal nations of this country, but also a loss to all of us, of meaning and perspective regarding our inter-connectedness to all that is.
I am privileged to know this young man. I know his mother, and I knew his Grandfather. I know his story, his struggles and challenges. And I have witnessed his smile, when he dances in the way of the ancients — I see “them” light-up his being, whenever “they” are sung-up, to dance within him. My heart sings for that time, that moment, that glimpse.
And then all returns to normal… I trust he can continue to weather the “storms” that gather around him too often in the people of his kind. I can only hope he grows stronger from each battle he overcomes, calling on the essence of his Spirit from within his body, beneath his skin.
I have done this image as a gift to that young man, and to his ill and ailing mother. I wish to share this further, to others whom may hear the humming of the Storm Dreamer — I feel its time to dance, to “dream”, to clear the toxins and the toxic once again, anew…

Excellent image and brilliant tribute to this young man.
Good for him that he holds on to his culture; it’s a rich and deep insight that deserves preservation. Too much has been lost in the rush for the new and modern; we are all impoverished for it. I applaud that he still walks in the dreamtime and calls the ancients to him, for as long as there is yet a spark, a fire may be kindled.
Goodonya for capturing a sense of it!

The energy from this is fabulous it brought tears to my eyes. So special is your culture and other cultures like it. For it to wither away is such a shame as it is so beautiful. I hope it finds a way to continue. Wonderful capture of your friend.

I couldn’t agree more, for their loss mirrors our own loss, further back in time. There is greater opportunity these days to revive the spirit in ourselves but it is like giving a long-term prisoner their freedom – they don’t know what to do with it. I hope he keeps up with his own explorations and dances his spirit(s) strong! Wonderful work!
Tracy Faught
Stunningly beautiful!1 Your words moved me as well. Thank’s for sharing this! That saying that “youth is wasted on the young” comes to mind here…as I get older, I yearn to go back to the magic days of my childhood, I remember lying on my bed and thinking I could fly…and feeling the bed rise off the ground…in my dreams I flew everywhere! I don’t feel that anymore…even though I try! Sigh!
I took up writing, and art from a very early age, to share the magic with others…our inner spirits make us who we are, we should never hide them away, for fear they may get lost and not be able to find thier way home again.
Helene Kippert
This is wonderful crowmanic – you’ve captured a magical moment here. What a splendid gift for this young man and his mother!

This is a great image and a wonderful statement you did. Living in a small town in Canada that is very close to the “Native People” (even if I am not one) I am attracted to this kind of culture. The same problem exists here also. I wish that all these “First Nations” as they really are can come back from their ordeal find back their identity and spirituality. And I could say more we all modern societies should go back to our fundamental spiritality. The world would be a better place to live it it were so.
Crowmanic replied
ah yes, “if it were so” ... yet it isn’t… but heh, thanks for sharing your point of view, and your kindred visit… TC4N.

Powerful and moving… the image pulled on my heart… the words evoked tears… I am so very grateful for those few who still make the effort to live their beliefs, and keep alive the sacred ways of their Ancestors… so vital to us all. Wonderful tribute to this young man, and the Ways of his people. Thank you for feeding me with your art… much appreciated.

cool. it looks as if he is in the middle of an intensely felt dance, really in the moment. what is he holding in his hand?
re: your words, everything changes. that’s the nature of existence. the question is, is this change for the better or for the worse?
Crowmanic replied 14 days ago
Thanks for your comment and interest. Regarding your question… one only needs to take a close look around their life and environment to see the answer. What I see is not looking too better at this time, but heh, that is not what others may see. [shrug] Cheers for now.
