We have been complying with these requests. Sometimes this was not possible because the request did not specify which image(s) should be taken down, in which case we wrote back asking for more details.

At this point, we have taken down ALL redbubble.com images and are working on a way to block further imports from redbubble.com into Polyvore. Please be patient while we are making these changes.

@Polyvore, I am really concerned about the fact that you have dissabeld your own tags, and thereof, you can no longer find new works that are being directed to your site.
I can proove very well that I can still upload pictures form redbubble to your site.
I just did it once again…
I chalenge you to take your own responsibility and find the works that I have uploaded… (as you would have to find lost works that are just still around on your site.) you are the one(s) in charge of your own network, it is for you to fix the mistakes that you have allowed to be produced here.
Perhaps you should also think about removing all works from other similar sites (but I think that it would be much easier on you to tell your members to upload their own products from their computer… If they have copyrights (like we do here) they must have it on their own computers.

When I started to be a photographer, I did it on my own time… I did not “steal” any equipment nor copyrighted materials from more experienced people.

How can we teach our children to be their own selves if we can’t even let them produce their own works?

What is the message you want to carry?

But let me tell you that if you can find my work, and you do remove it as soon as you do, that means that you can do the same with ALL of our works… this is YOUR responsibility.

It is disgraceful to see that you allow young people to upload “anything” to your site, and then wash your hands clean of it for letting the whole world use it.

I am very deceived. and I demand that you do no longer allow ANY directing from other copyrighted sites…

I am watching you, and there are a few people that are too… you just won’t always know who we are… nor which site we come from… deviantart, redbubble, photobucket… or any other sites… theft is theft, and it is not acceptable to profit (in any forms, and you sure do profit from getting original works to be played with to attract your clients.)

We have a petition of 181 + yourself there, that states that WE want it all removed. It was your mistake in the first place. Fix it. Show the young ones on your site that one must take responsibilities for their own actions. It might help them trust adults, and learn to accept their responsibilities too.

Work on changing how your images are getting on your site(get them to upload from their own computers), because I promise to not give up the fight, and I am willing to go to any length to achieve the respect of our copyrights. Our copyrights MUST be respected anywhere. Redbubble memebers or not.

Copyrights are OUR rights as artists, anywhere we be.

For the record, lets not beat up RB about right click, I can take a screen shot and get the same image… no way to prevent that except maybe going to flash, and trust me you dont want to do that.

But if right click warned user image was copyrighted that does perform a service.

It’s not even about screen shots. In most browsers you can drag/drop an image. Also, it’s as much about code installed via toolbars and the like that hunt `img’ elements in the current document and acquire the item at the end of the URL in the `src’ attribute as it is anything else.

If there’s a hierarchy of blame here then, in this instance, RedBubble are right down at the bottom with a blame value of approx 0.

As of last night, we have blocked imports from redbubble.com (because redbubble.com staff requested that we do so). You managed to import your image before our site software was updated with that change.

We have taken down your image and sets that you mentioned in your message. (Although, we did not understand why you uploaded something only to request to have it removed a few hours later).

As we have mentioned several times: we would be happy to comply with take down notices as long as they come from the person who owns the rights to the image and lists which URLs need to be removed. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for us to respond to your request (we usually respond in a few hours, but please allow 24 hours before you hit the panic button).

Also, please note that different people have different opinions about how their images should or should not be used online. We would be happy to service group take down requests as we did with RedBubble.com but please don’t send us request to take down all image from site X unless you are sure everyone affected shares your views. I hope this is not construed as lack of cooperation or respect on our part.

I have uploaded these to see how your site was “working,” and what will happen with my images, so I precisely know what and how to make sure copyrighted images are not still being used.

As for standing up for all artist that have their rights to copyrights of their own material, I can not stay there and do nothing about it, for copyrights are made to be respected, and the very big majority of your images were taken on the net “randomly” by users that do not have them rights; Therefore, I will maintain my position at asking that everybody’s copyrights be respected. If you do not remove them you might have to deal with the consequences of your “inactions”...

Most people form other sites can’t ask you to have their works removed, for they are not even aware that they have been imported there. It would only be fair to refuse to respect their copyrights because you believe that they should all come and warn you to remove stuff that they do not even know is on your site.

Copyrights are made for EVERYONE to be respected, and I do not believe that when you say that everybody has a different opinion on the issue, you seem to forget that copyrights are the same for everyone, and that includes your site. By refusing today to take care of the real problem, you expose yourself to lawsuits in a near or far future.

I must say that you have made some great efforts to remove to remove redbubble’s member’s works, and I appreciate this.

I would really appreciate if you would let us know how you will make your best so your members really understand what are copyrights, what consequences there might be to infringe them, and what changes you will/might make in a near future so all artists/photographers works be protect as best as you can.

well said, as artists we take pride in our work / art / potography/ paintings/ pictures creations / and crafts etc / putting our time energy and life into our work ,some of us have to make a living from what we do and therefor own the respect to copyright and protect what is rightfully ours unless requested or permitted otherwise.
therefor any other website or any other persons from such websites using such pictures etc are simply commiting a criminal offence ( bloody thieves ) and should know better as well as the proceedures and copyright laws. standing beside my fellow artists. but not in the same room or country i sign agreeing with rage as the theft probably continues right under our noses even tho mine is big lol i manage to get the pen past my nasal hairs and sign

I would also like to add that the moment a work is brought to life that work is copyrighted to the creator. That copyright in turn is valid up until 70 years after the creators death.

All my works on red bubble have a copyright tag and that is to be respected by everyone. My images are sold commercially outside red bubble and any ifringement on my copyright is an infringment on my commercial rights and action will be taken if that commercial right is subject to theft of copyright. What part of copyright is so difficult to understand. If you don’t have my written permission, don’t use my work.

I signed up with Rebubble about a month ago, but I haven’t put anything on this website and today I’m finding out that someone decided to copy the art work of the artist on redbubble.

I read some bull crap about someone being creative, excuse me but if you want to be truly creative then bust your but like the rest of us artist here who put blood sweat and tears into making our work. The difference between an artist and the theif is It takes time and hours to truly create an art piece, it only take takes a few minutes to make a copy and claim that you created it. To truly understand the process of creating you have to put time into making it, you never fully appreciate or understand what it is to be an artist when you just copy and sell it or claim it as your own stating that you are the creator when your not.

When I do get around to putting my stuff on redbubble I do not want my stuff copied in the present, past or anytime in the future. My stuff is copyrighted and it is a volation of the the copyright laws.

Im a user on polyvore.com and to be perfectly honest ive never even heard of this site until now,when youve opened up a petition to close polyvore.
I think perhaps you should be in somewhat grateful to polyvore as it has led alot of people to this unkown rather unexistant site.
However i do agree full credit should be issued to the person who has used any of your work from this site or elsewhere.
But i really dont see the problem of people using your work to create their own art work,if anything its flattery and no its not copying,however yes i can understand that youd be mad at the fact theyre using your work to initiate their own.
But most girls that use this site are teenagers or just avid artists or stylists of all ages.
It would however breach copyright IF YOU HAVE ISSUED COPYRIGHT ON YOUR WORK if others claim your work to be their own.

Why dont you try talking to the owners of polyvore rather than issuing the typical American response of suing or trying to get things shut down and come to a compromise with them.

I think this is all very petty and rather sad that youd want to shut down a site where people just enjoy themselves or spend time making new friends i do however like i said before understand you want credit.
Why dont you suggest that to polyvore then??

p.s. its all very well saying you dont allow your work to be used elsewhere without your permissions but your work actually has to be registered and copyrighted…..........no copyright registry no case!

I take back what i said when i said people can use your work i actually didnt mean that,i just feel that the site is just about fun and NO ONE is ever attemtping to say you or anyone elses work is there own.
Its the same with the clothes, we all know no user on the site made them but the designers themselves.
We know that,but we mix and match clothes or some others make collages of art perhaps a picture youve made in with something else.

WE KNOW THIS,no one has ever claimed anyone elses work whether it be Chanel or an artist is infact their own.

My art has been stolen repeatedly and used on Polyvore. Even when I politely ask people to remove it, they rudely thumb their noses and say that Polyvore allows them to use all images they find on the internet. I recently graduated from a Law course on Internet and New Media law, and know the latest Copyright Laws. The majority of nations adhere to the Berne Copyright Convention which states that any art or image created privately and originally after April 1, 1989 is copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not. By default the work is copyrighted and may not be copied or used without permission.

Polyvore even has set up a blog regarding Copyright, but even on this blog they do nothing to educate their members when they say ridiculous things about being allowed to use images without restriction. The more people who comment the more likely they will be to change.

I have written to Polyvore time and time again to have my images removed. Instead of my art being taken off the website, it is multiplying. At last count my art was being used 50 times. I’ve now begun invoicing Polyvore at US 500 for each single use of my images, so the last invoice was 25,000.

Napster’s lawyers unsuccessfully tried to use the very same argument that Polyvore has been using, that file sharing is simply an extension of fair use. But the courts ruled in favor of a zero tolerance approach, shutting down Napster until it had made the new effective filters. The new ruling made clear that every file-sharing system has to filter out items that are copyrighted.

Polyvore’s website interface and model would be even more liable than Napster because it serves up copyrighted images from its Image Library on a silver platter, openly inviting its members to freely drag & drop them into their sets and provides tools to chop copyrighted images to bits, to cover up watermarks. It then renames our images, and says that the thief has “created them”, which Polyvore’s own interface automatically stamps on the image set. It diguises copyrighted images by calling them “items”, not “copyrighted images”.

It puts no warnings or pops up on the Drag & Drop feature, warning members that the images are NOT owned by Polyvore and that they are COPYRIGHTED and require PERMISSION OR PAYMENT to image owners.

It further blocks victims of theft from being able to leave comments on the sets containing the stolen images by blocking with a pop up javascript application, which gives protection to the copyright infringer.

It then uses its Blog (The Official Blog Of Polyvore.com – An Important Note About Copyright http://blog.polyvore.com/2008/01/important-note-about-copyright.html to encourage image theft … my questions to Moderators go unanswered, despite there being THREE moderators (Nadia, Jess and Pasha, Polyvore’s own CEO).

Yet these moderators let the comments that are pro-image-theft be posted immediately, while holding back for sometimes 4 days comments that are against copyright infringement. This is proof positive of Polyvore’s conscious choice to take no proactive steps to rectify this blatant image theft issue.

These thiefs stole many of my digital art and paintings to be used on the worst contests I have ever seen. Not only are they thiefs but they have ZERO talent.

I also took the liberty of contacting getty images, their images are stollen too…and the have yearly paid lawyers to handle this.

Also contacted deviantart, photoshopcontests, psdtuts, worth1000!
I strongly believe if we all unite this will cease.

i only found out last night about ‘that’ site. I came across a number of friends art and notified them with links to all their works. Also started a thread in the EYEFETCH.com community forum :)

I have signed the petition, with a smile! If i find another peice of my art on that site, i will put my hand through the computer screen, grab the kid using it, give him a slap and tell him to wake up. I have to admit that the site is to bare the full weight of this. Those teenagers have no idea about copyrite and are just doing what they think is normal. We need to educate them.
