Mingus Epitaph

Mixed media portrait of one of jazz’s greatest composers. Originally drawn in pencil and marker then scanned into Photoshop, where layers of texture and light were added.

Thanks Pinky… it’s actually something we’ve had in the archives for a while now. It was one of the first images Mike did for Zazzle but it got ‘banned’ for some kind of copyright thing even though it’s an interpretation he did completely on his own. I never could figure out how this one was a problem yet so many others on Zazzle got by okay… but you know how they are…

I’ve long said “Haitian Fight Song” has one of the sickest bass riffs in music history. Mingus was the man. Great portrait. I’m impressed.
