Scaling Beck Falls by

Thanks to Tall Guy for this idea. I would never have known it was even there, and so close to home too!

Nice one Stephen, the waterflow over this fall seems to vary a lot…I wouldn’t mind seeing it after heavy rain.. I’ve seen photo’s and it is very impressive.
Hidden away behind the rock on the other side, there was a dead dog on my last vist :- ( I believe I found the owner.. it looks like it has gone now.
A lovely composition of a lovely waterfall…. should I mention that there is another waterfall not far away.. we tried to get to it on our last visit.. we could hear it but not see it.. the sides were too steep to get down…

  • I might try to find the other one day, but if you say it’s too steep I’m not so sure. I think this one was pretty treacherous as it was!

  • And I wonder why these fals aren’t shown on the OS map?

Stephen, they are on the O/S Explorer maps.. this one isn’t named, just marked off as a waterfall, with the word Mill beside it. As you was climbimg down to the base of the fall did you notice you were going through the ruins of the old mill? This waterfall wasn’t our main target of the day, we were aiming for the one that was named on the map called Keld Hole. A public footpath takes you to a little wooden bridge that crosses the beck very near the falls. As I said earlier we could hear it but not see it… access from this point looked impossible so we checked what we named Scaling Beck falls out.Our thoughts were to try and find a way further downstream and walk back up the beck to Keld Hole… but up to now we haven’t found a way without tresspassing. Please Note the waterfall isn’t on the same beck as this waterfall.. go to Google Earth and put these co-ordinates in..54°31’0.62"N 0°50’9.35"W

It’s somewhere about there… but as I say I don’t think it’s accessable from this point.

  • Did you ever manage to find the other waterfall?

WOW! Magnificent. I like the way you’ve framed this scene with the wonderful colour of the folliage in the forground and the water flowing so perfectly. Wonderful! Don.

    Stephen,
no I haven’t been back since.. it looks like it would be hard to get to the bottom, plus there’s a lot of trees around so there might not be a decent clear sight of it if you can get down there.
