Taking a break from swing dancing at the casino in Gulfport, Florida, I went out on the boardwalk for some fresh air. Sometimes I try to photograph the lights across the water, but for some reason, this night I was intrigued by the wooden boards and the shadows from the streetlights. When I started playing with this image on my computer, I had no idea there were greens and reds hiding in the wood, but when they came out on their own, I only had to encourage them.

Thanks, Mark and Susan. This is the kind of picture that I would have gotten in trouble with my mother over when I was young and if she had paid for the film processing, like when I wasted her money for a whole roll of clouds and palm fronds. The best part about digital cameras is you can take a hundred shots to get one good picture. I often feel claustrophobic amidst the crowd of dancing people inside the casino and go out to admire the sky on my own for a while. This particular evening, something in the angle of the boards and the texture of the wood got my attention. I did not see the color until I bumped up the saturation, and suddenly this old dead wood looked alive again, and cheerful.
