As this was being developed, via various filters in PhotoShop, it took on the aspect, for me, of a subterranean river or, more specifically, a molten river in Hades. Of the five rivers of Hades (Styx, Lethe, Acheron, Phlegethon, and Cocytus), the latter is the river of lamentation.
