This abstract is a completely digital creation, begun with a blank, white rectangle. A base color was added, and shapes extracted, and the ensuing cutting, pasting, cropping, filtering, and mangling eventually led to this. I did not set out with this image in mind, but just followed along as it created itself, with some guidance from me. Much like someone who puts a large canvas on the floor and flings paint just to see what will happen, this is my digital equivalent.
The title was derived from the convoluted tentacles working their way through the piece, which brought to mind lines from Max Ehrmann’s Desiderata, my favorite writing and the creed that I try to live by:
“Nurture strength of spirit to shield you
in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.”
To fatigue and loneliness, you could also add confusion, all of which are represented by the clashing of strong red and orange with the fragments of bright yellow, green and purple.
