There are many definitions for Om from the simple to the sublime. Most simply, it is the Hindu symbol for the creation of the universe. Used as a mantra to aid meditation, the sound vibrates in one’s nasal passages and helps to focus awareness. I like the Hindu symbol, written in the devengarii script, but there are many faces of Om to also be aware of. Here are a few, including Tamil, Tibetan, Balinese, Bangla, and Jain versions. Meditation can be a powerful spiritual practice to help overcome negativity in your life. I hope this will inspire you in your own meditations. Namaste.

There are many types of meditation Ginny. Believe it or not I consider painting a form of medition. When I’m really worried about something I will get alone and paint letting the paper or canvas be a focal point to clear my head.

  • Jim, I can see how painting would clear your mind and provide a therapeutic focus for you. Anything that opens our awareness to the higher consciousness can definitely be a form of meditation.

Wow!!! What a work of art, i’m ordering one for myself and Lee on the 22nd! When I place my order could you sign the back for me (hindu artist tradition is to sign the back) that would be SO AWESOME!

Great job, and the orange is perfect for yogis, too!

  • Sue, I am extremely honored by your pending order and, of course, I would be more than happy to sign it for you.

A very nicely designed and laid out image ! A very harmonious use of the palette.

  • Thanks very much. I did this after a week-long kriya yoga retreat in June and came back refreshed and inspired. See csa-davis dot org if interested. Seventy-eight year old Davis, the head of CSA, is a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, who came from India in 1920 to bring yoga to the US.
