Fungus Amongus

After a couple of days of fairly steady drizzle/rain/humidity, I found this incredible growth in my front yard, this big mushroomy thing but all in one lump. It is about 30 inches long and maybe 18 across. It came up so fast, the green plants didn’t have time to get out of its way, and they’ve been consumed by it.

Strange.

I wish I’d had a time-lapse camera set up
to capture its appearance.

I wonder if it is edible.
