My Criminal Past
This is a forty-four year old picture of me in an actual police lineup. At the risk of disappointing anybody, I am not the criminal here; I was employed by the police department when they arrested two scam artists caught trying to flee the area with some little old lady’s life savings. Four female employees were rounded up to stand in the lineup. Despite putting on as guilty a look as I could manage, the victim correctly identified the two desperados.

hah, love this.And the story.
Ginny Schmidt replied
Thanks, Magda. My dress (I remember it well), was actually green, but I thought red made a better picture. If you like the story, you might also appreciate where they found the tightly wound roll of money, hidden somewhere the large lady on the far right obviously thought would be quite safe.

aaaaaahahahahaha.

But if you were, we you could probably fool us ;)
hehehe
Jim Caldwell
I think I know who they are :-)
Ginny Schmidt replied
Why, have they been up to mischief in your neighborhood, Jim? I’m only guessing, but almost a half a century later, they probably don’t move as fast as they used to.
Hans Kawitzki
great story and picture,my guess is both standing next to you were the criminals :)
Ginny Schmidt
Well, you got one correct. Left to right: lady warden, coworkeer, criminal, me, coworrker, criminal. Aside from the warden, my fellow employees and I worked in the records and identification section, where we did things like file arrest reports and annotate traffic tickets for a new thing called data entry. We shared office space with the fingerprint technicians, one of whom identified a sixteen year old serial killer of old women by patiently comparing one print left on a bedroom windowsill with our entire collection of cards, using only a magnifying glass, like a jeweler’s loupe, and her own keen eyesight. I watch CSI now and think about her whenever I see a computer zip through thousands of prints in a huge database and, in seconds, come up with not only a match but the fingerprint owner’s entire history.

Fantastic shot Ginny

Amazing. I don’t care when this was and who is in color… you are the only one with any dress sense and a decent hairdo!!
I love the way you’ve shared this after 44 years of keeping it close to your heart, and I’m not surprised the victim managed to make a positive ID on the lady on the right. Come to think of it, is it possible she was working Scotch plains NJ in ‘63? I always wondered what happened to my signed baseball from Yankee Stadium, and she looks awful familiar…
Ginny Schmidt replied
HAH! At risk of being indelicate, if she took your baseball, you might not want it back if she hid it with the money.

dramatic view! looking good in old days…... and still Ginny.

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen all day – thanks for the laugh. By the way – I guessed the woman on your right too – even if her beady eyes were blacke out. LOL.
Hans Kawitzki
well at least I picked one criminal

Thanks, I appreciate your comment. Unfortunately, these days, I have more history than I do family … I’d swap in a heartbeat.
