This is a photo from Messolonghi, from the lagoon of Messolonghi, to be more precise. Messolonghi is a very important town, with a great history. It is the only town of Greece, declared “Hiera Polis” (Sacred town) because of the heroic fight of its inhabitants during the years of the Greek struggle for Independence against the Ottoman Empire (more about it in the very near future).
The lagoon of Messolonghi is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have seen in my country. Lots of fish there, but also some fine fisherman’s stilt huts, called “Peladas”, like the one in the photo.
