I shot this photo on my first trip back to my favorite place. The creek gets really dry druing the no rain months here in Fla. It takes allot of rain for it to have enough water in it for my little boat. Here it is allready August and there really still is not enough water, Florida or at least SWFL needs more rain. This gator is at least 10 foot. I am always on the lookout for a great gator shot. While riding in my boat at Fisheating Creek, it’s really hard to get a shot of one that is on dry ground. As soon and I mean they are fast, as soon as they spot the boat they run for cover. That is, they like to sink their self in the deep water. This gator was trapped by a floating log. He wanted to get to the deep water but the log was in his way. He thought I am guessing that he would go over the log, which is why his head is high above the water. Looking through the lens is kind of scary, after all I am in a ghenee and it is not much higher then that log. I took the shot just before he changed his mind about going over and went under the log. Now you would have to imagine this. He is in only in, maybe a foot of water, and about 2 feet about from the boat. He splashed so hard the log when flying and about scared me out of the boat. My heart was beating so fast, I am sure that I would have been a site to see!

Wow, beautiful, and this is exactly what I envision when I think about floating around the shallow waters in a kayak or ghenee! Scary, but fantastic! Scares me, just reading your description!
Great shot!!
Yes it can get a bit scary but you are safe in a ghenee, he actually hit the boat before going to the deep water and that was only because I was in the way. But I was safe and sound in my ghenee. I don’t know why I worry, I know unless he jumps in the boat I am okay, and the chance of that happening are what 1 in a million. Thanks for taking the time to comment

OMG Karen this must have been so scarey, I wouldnt be falling out of the boat then lol, did you get hurt, I hope not, wow nice work Karen,
No I am fine but was shaken a bit, what I keep telling myself is the gator wants to get away from you not go towards you.

Excellent capture Karen, he sure is close!!!
In this one he is actually too close. I need to remind myself that they can be dangerous.
