Carol J Elsip is a versatile representational and abstract artist whose work features in many private and corporate collections around the world. Born in England in 1967, raised and educated in Yorkshire, she earned her BA Hons in Fine Art from Leeds University, and has since developed her creative career in oil painting.
Carol often begins her work from photographs, sketches or studies from the landscape, immersing herself in a multi-sensory experience to capture the beauty, mystery and sense of spiritual presence on location. Back in the studio, landscape memories become metaphor and mirror for the psyche as her paintings develop into more abstract and imaginative visions. Her paintings progress through successive layers of paint while light and color is carefully orchestrated to create stunning dynamic tensions while evoking a strong sense of the mystical.
“I aim for a careful balance between spontaneous creative expression, and an intentional, considered application of paint, wherein I soon find myself engaged in an ongoing dialogue with light, shade, color, shape and form. Seemingly random painterly gestures evoke, for me, a variety of visual and conceptual associations – some of which I will clarify, refine and define as they suggest to me coherent concept or narrative, while others are left retaining a more ethereal state of infinite potential. Overall, my artistic intention is to connect with and express the essence of creative force and the eternally evolving nature of life itself”
In 2011 Carol relocated permanently to Northwest America where she’s now established her studio and continues to develop her art, inspired by the majestic mountains and lakes of the Puget Sound.
