I am fascinated by the Cascadian volcanic mountain range where I live, and not only for their spectacular beauty and majestic presence. That serenely silent snow-capped surface belies the brooding presence of underlying destructive forces of devastating proportions.

“Cascadian Storm” was inspired by Mt Rainier, considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It is the first painting in a new series exploring the Pacific Ring of Fire, wherein I’m hoping to capture something of that sense of intense pressure and brooding tension right before a volcanic eruption, earthquake or violent storm – while creating an allegorical expression of the incredible transformational strength and force of nature, and within our own, indomitable human spirit.
