The Journey Continues
These refugee’s were traveling to Chad via Niger and stopped near our rig site to make repairs to their truck. After giving them water food and milk for the women, babies and children, they were gracious enough to let me take some shots. They still had 1000km to travel at this point…......Life is sometimes very cruel! Unfortunately i could not get any better shots of the women and children as they were safely nestled up on top.
Shot in the Sahara desert, Libya.

Another brilliant work from this series. So powerful!
“A great photograph is a full expression of what one feels about what is being photographed in the deepest sense, and is, thereby, a true expression of what one feels about life in its entirety.” ~Ansel Adams

These images make our sunsets, cute animals, pretty flowers etc, look distinctly twee. This is real life, a life most of us will never see as close up as you have and definitely one most of us will never experience at first hand.
A wonderful very moving and highly emotive series. You are to be congratulated.
jesika
Craig Hender replied
Wow, thanks so much Jesika. I do feel extremely lucky to be able to capture these moments, and never take them for granted.

Bon Jour Craig.
I find your refugee series to be very interesting indeed but this one is the real stand-out for me.
I prefer it because of the very well isolated subject, the subject it self, the treatment you have given it and most of all because that extremely interesting overloaded and well packed truck is going away from the camera. To me this gives a sense of the people fleeing whatever it is they fear. The angle of shot and great perspective add further weight to that.
Very nice tones in the monochrome, nicely subdued contrast and highlights, excellent depth of field and adequately sharp.
Topically disturbing yet rivetting viewing.

Congrats on the Feature today Craig (On the Art page) ... many years ago I saw scenes reminiscent of this in Kenya as people fled Idi Amin by any means available – however yours has a rawness and an isolated feel beautifully enhanced by your processing. Love your vignetting which helps to focus the eye … top shot (top series!).
Craig Hender replied
Thankyou Rosalie, very much appreciated.

Craig, This is a great Capture. It reminds me of scenes from mu mission work in remote and rural ares in Nigeria. These precious people sure know how to load a truck. Sadly many dies due to accidents. Thank you Craig for sharing your art and showing many viewers scenes from places many would never see. http://www.philadelphia33.org/

Excellent shot, Craig. It certainly is a reminder to us all that we are very fortunate. For these people, it’s virtually impossible to get a step up in life, but they somehow continue in the face of endless adversity.
