On a clear day, I can see forever.....

This is the scene (best viewed large) that greeted me when I got to the top of the abseiling rock! Unbelievable that something as spectacular as this can be found on the Highveld where I live.

This is Avontuur Vallei (translated as Adventure Valley). The abseiling adventurers go down 50 metres (over the rocks you see in the foreground) and then climb back to the top along rocks! It is part of Buffalo Gorge, a fun place for adrenaline junkies! This is where I spent a whole Saturday on a photo shoot for the owner, Ryk Diepraam.

The owner states the following as an attraction caption: “We have the Big 3 of nature ~ water, mountains & flora!” And it is true. The place is stunning. I have taken a lot of photos of the valley and the abseiling area (one half of the farm), but I have to go back to cover the other half of the farm (where the big & beautiful gorge is situated).

Very rough terrain to the abseiling area though! We have a 2×4 Isuzu diesel “bakkie” (pickup truck) and we got stuck in a wild hog hole! The hole was sized 1,5m long and 1m wide. Could not see it as it was filled with muddy water from the previous day’s rain! The mud (of course) was caused by the hogs themselves with their rolling and frollicking!!!
