A group of young Pandani in the King Billy rain forest at Waldheim (forest) where Gustav and Kate Weindorfer lived.

Pandani is found only in Tasmania and is the largest heath plant in the world. Although it resembles its namesake, the pandanus palm of tropical and South-East Asia, the pandani is in no way related to it.

In Tasmania pandanis are found in subalpine plant communities. The long, sharp-edged leaves on their trunk provide insulation.

You can find enormous stands of pandanis around Dove Lake in Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park.
