JORDY UPDATE (27/03/08)

Okay … after much anxiety and stress I finally rang my Credit Card company and they agreed to lift the limit on my Mastercard enough so that I can now pay for Jordy’s operation on the day!! At first I thought I could pay the bill via payments, but when I rang to talk to them about that, they simply said they’d rather full payment … or at least 50%. So I have been stressing a lot about that, but now I have the credit (and with the help from the Jordy Fund … I am in the process of booking him in. I rang them Wednesday Morning to let them know I have the money and want to go ahead … they still haven’t rang me back (am expecting a phone call at work today). I am really anxious because the longer this is left, the more chance the cancer has spread.

Jordy has got a bit worse. The tumor on his eyelid is now big enough that it is rubbing halfway up his eyeball … and has started to secrete some sort of pus … so his eye is always dirty. Plus it is still bleeding a lot. He is still purring a lot and he sleeps with me (he has got really close lately). I will try to get some photos of him before the op … and progress shots after the op .. but will post them on my blog, because they won’t be pretty photos sadly. But I think everyone has a right to know that this is real … that your money is going to a good cause.

I want to take this opportunity to once again thank those who have purchased my work knowing the profits are going towards Jordy’s Operation. As of writing this … together we have raised just under $100!!!! That is amazing. But please … keep buying :) :) It helps so much!!!!

Hopefully after the phone call today … I will be heading to Perth either tonight or tomorrow for an overnight stay. Fingers crossed!!

For those interested in seeing where the money goes … I will break down what has been spent so far and predict future costs. It’s amazing how much it adds up :(

It’s not cheap, is it Craig. I took in a stray from work a few years back – I called here Eddie (Edwina). We thought she was a boy because she had an umbilicas hernie that her ‘former owner’ never got fixed. And on being x-rayed because she had been hit by a car, the vet said she had a former break in her leg that had never been fixed. She was the dearest, most beautiful little dog – and she cost over $1000 to get fixed and fixed up (the girls at work did a whip around to help pay for her medical bills which was just lovely). Sadly, after Craig (my ex) and I split up, he left her out the back door one day and she ran out onto the road and was killed by a car (they didn’t even stop). Craig was so distraught – he rang me at work and I could hardly understand what he was saying. He rang his dad who thought it was me who had been killed!!! She has a special place in our hearts to this day. So I completely understand what you’re on about.

My beautiful little ginger kitten, who is in my folio here, had quite a rough start to life – my housemate saw him being thrown out of a car on a busy road in Melb., and stopped the traffic in her high heels to rescue him.
He was very frightened, and had a scorch mark on his fur, from being burnt with cigarettes, probably, but despite his rough start he is now a lovely little thing and I’m so glad to have him.

By the way, Craig, hope things go well. It sounds like you’ve thought long and hard about the whole thing.

I got pet insurance when I first got my big part persian (or rather she found us). a stay in vet hospital ,a bad heart ..i am relieved i got it.
Your poor puss has been through a lot and I hope he is not suffering ….
I would also be trying some natural medicines for him (have a look on the net for anything you can do for him after the op .
I have heard white cats are very prone to skin cancers so no sun for your boy …I hope you have been
firm with the vets and booked him in for the opp.
    All the best ..Gill

I hope you’re getting the support you need, Craig. I guess a lot of people are cynical and others don’t value our furry friends the way we do. If it was a child you would get an avalanch of help. However, there are a stack of people around the bubble who do share our love and I hope they are able to help you too.

Thanks Gillian. VBS Yes, I will look at more natural meds for sure!! :) :) Jordy has already suffered with Skin Cancer and had his ears removed when he was young. From then on (till now) I have always put zinc on his nose (because they can get it there too) but no one ever told me they get it on their eyelids as well. Although I guess there wouldn’t have been much I could do to prevent this. Cancers are appearing in more and more animals now … because we help them to live longer lives

Thanks Anne :) I am!!! Although, I also understand how some people wouldn’t see what I am doing as something they would do (like my Father) but that is them … and I am me. Kim and I couldn’t have children together … so we had Fur Children instead …. so they mean just as much to us. Jordy was Kim’s too. So was Basil and so was Fudge.

You’r totally right Craig. All my pets have been children to me too (although we managed finally to have our little girl – but before her they were and are all our kids).
