Jordy Update ... and a favour to ask.

Well most of you would know I received some bad news about Jordy last week. If you haven’t read about it, you can here

My Vet also suggested she could give me a referral the the Murdoch University Cancer Care unit for Animals in Perth, if I wanted to see what sort or treatment etc was available for Jordy if I wanted to go down that road as well. I couldn’t not use the referral and have Jordy get worse and put to sleep soon … and always wonder if maybe I could have done more to help. I am sooooooo glad I took him to Perth today!!! I left him there for an hour while the surgeons looked over him and they gave me three options.

  1. Leave him be to let the cancer spread to his lungs shortly and just give him a good quality of life until such time that the pain was too much and have him put to sleep (this option was the only hope the Vet had given me!!!)
  1. Scrape his tumor and do a course of Chemo to shrink and slow the growth and spread … and monitor him with subsequent checkups and then give him a few extra months before having to make the decision.
  1. Remove his eye and the surrounding tissue, check the nasal cavity and use skin from his head to patch the eye and he would almost certainly be free of the cancer (if it hasn’t spread yet) and could live another 2 years or more until he died of old age.

So I am opting for number three of the above … but this is where I want to ask you all a big favour.

The operation is going to cost me $3000, money I don’t have right now. The operation also needs to be done as soon as possible!!! The longer it is left, the more likely the cancer has spread and the chances of this operation working become less.

What I want to ask you all (beg even) is that you support me in giving Jordy the chance to live and die in a few years of natural causes, rather than in about three months if I do nothing … buy buying my work here at Red Bubble. For every cent of Profit I make from today I will be putting in a Fund especially for Jordy’s Operation and I will start a new Journal Entry called The Jordy Fund where on request, I will paste the product bought, who bought it and how much profit (with a running total) has gone towards Jordy’s Operation. Normally I would save and plan when I needed money for something, but this is very important for me to do ASAP and so your help would be greatly appreciated. And it doesn’t matter if you just buy a card … or a Full sized Framed Print. It ALL means something to me. I appreciate your help so much and so does Jordy.

Don’t forget too that I have sale Items here which are 50% off my markup if you want to buy cards etc more inexpensively

I always want to buy your work Craig… So many times I order things from your collection, but its not accepted by Red Bubble, because they need credit card r paypal for doing it. I kind of person who doesnt like using credit card. If you have any other way for me to buy your t’shirt and other works, let me know Craig…. I dont know how to be involve in this site and specially to help you, but I really intend to help you and involve in this place….
For Red Bubble, please make some more options for people who dont have Credit Crad, or Paypal….

  • Craig Shillington replied

Awwww Vic. Sadly I think Red Bubble is Paypal only?? Maybe you could write to them ( HERE ) and see if there is some other way?

I had to put dowm my beloved cat, Scatzi, 4 years ago. It still hurts. We spent so much money but nothing helped. I didn’t know that cats do not cry out as a dog would do. They suffer in silence. I let Scatzi suffer so long because I couldn’t let him go. It was unfair to him. It takes a lot of love and courage to put an animal down but sometimes we have to. I’m so very sorry. You have to ask yourself what is best for your pet.

  • Craig Shillington replied

Thank you Lori … and I agree, Cat’s don’t show us they are in pain and that makes it really hard. Since this post Jordy and I have gone a long way. I saw a surgeon in Perth who assessed Jordy and he removed the cancer (and his eye). Jordy is not in pain … and can now live his life fully because of that. I am so glad I went down that road with him. There is a recent photo of him here

Hi Craig I am going to go through your portfolio and purchase something as i want to help with your Jordy. When my golden Niko needed hip surgery my friends got together and organized a dance with the proceeds going towards her operation and it was a wonderful thing for them to do and the money raised almost paid for the operation so i was very very lucky, and still am with the friends i have and i would like to return the favour even if it’s in a small way to help your Jordy, thanks very much, take care and give Jordy hugs and kisses from me and my guys, Patricia
