Craig Shillington

Update time :)

So sorry for being a little scarce lately … I have had a lot going on and can now finally breath a little.

First off, I just went for an Interview for a Job here in Kellerberrin at the local Hardware Store. Originally they wanted someone to help reconcile accounts etc on the computer system, but because I could be up and moving at anytime, they have given me a casual position as a sales assistant :) For that I would like to thank Kate, Judy, Scott and Noel!! Without your help I would never have even thought to ask.

I also had my follow up specialist appointment yesterday in Perth, with the Chest and Lung Dr. My results show I am the same and that with time and giving up smoking, there is no reason I can’t lead a full and normal life :) That was the best news I could have heard. I have been so anxious and confused about exactly what I could and couldn’t do from now on. Now I am more aware. So I am sticking to my plan of cutting down slowly on the smoking to the point when I move and am relatively stress free I will finally give them up for good. Of the results all were normal except for one which was bordering on Normal so I am glad the tests etc from earlier this year picked up the Disease early on and now I can work on not allowing that to get any worse :) :) Great news :)

Have one more hurdle to get over before I can really start thinking about moving on. The mediation service with my ex girlfriend is next week. This is the last thing now stopping me from moving at the moment. Fingers crossed that goes well and something is agreed upon and I can finally start packing :) :)

All this is helping so much with how I am dealing with my Depression, there is nothing like good news and maybe more to the point, having somewhat more control of your own life that helps deal with depression so much easier. :) Right now I am on top of the world. :) VBS

Bloody fantastic news Craig. I’m so glad that things are looking up for you and hope that you can maintain that positive focus for a long time to come… I’m painfully aware of how hard it is to quit the ‘fags’ as I’ve attempted many times in the past all with unsucessful results. I’m sure it will happen but I just need to be right in my own head first I suppose.

Good luck with the mediation mate… hope all works out for the best and I am sure you will breathe a big sigh of relief once it’s done ‘n’ dusted… as you said, you’ll be able to get on with your life again.

    More power to you mate.
    Cheers.

VBS Thanks Matt :) I think the trick with giving up the smokes is to actually WANT to give up, you know. You really have to be behind it and not giving up for someone else, or because you HAVE to. Although having to does help a lot in the end when you really want to. ;) I DO want to, but am realistic at the moment that that would be too hard, so I have been cutting down slowly. Seems a bit easier that way and I am figuring once I am moved and settled again … it will be a snap :) VBS

Craig, I can empathise with your difficulty in giving up smoking. I never smoked. I couldn’t see the sense in it.

However my mother and my 2 sisters were smokers.

I saw just how difficult it was for the 3 of them to stop.

I know that my mother’s heart attack at 46 (she should have died but she was too stubborn) was a direct result of her smoking and when she struggled back from the massive heart attack, she continued to smoke. It was so difficult for me to watch. I would argue and chastise and beg but to no avail and I just had to accept that it was her decision. Very difficult. I loved her dearly.

Also I watched as my 2 sister overcame the addiction. I am so very proud of them. I don’t judge people when it comes to quitting smoking. We all have our demons. Mine include (in no specific order) Jaffas, very strong black coffee, red wine, toasted cheese sandwiches, blue vein cheese, potato crisps, etc. Don’t ask me to give them up!!

But, all that aside, I think that you are going to be just fine. More than fine. After reading and responding to an earlier post from you, I am so very delighted with your tenacity and drive to live life and continue with your art. Best wishes, as always, Michelle.

Craig…. I was beginning to wonder,

But the health side is great news I am really happy for you.
I can also understand you in this regard on the smoking, Family members etc
Regards your mediation, I hope it goes well.

The Job is BRILLIANT news and at least it means a little extra cash for you. and that it gets you out of the house…

Awwww :D VBS Thanks so much guys!! I sorta feel bad because a wonderful Woman came all the way from Perth (2hrs) just for the 30 minute or so appointment and then went all the way back!! I should have offered her a coffee or something but was a little euphoric and didn’t think.

Michelle, I know from experience I need to WANT to give up smoking to be able to. At the moment my smoking subconsciously helps me deal with stress. It’s a dirty old bad best friend that is slowly killing me. BUT!!! I do want to give up and I have a plan on doing so which started when I first learned about my lung disease. I have no one telling me to stop except myself and I am doing so, my way. And by doing that I know I WILL! :) VBS

Craig – relaly pleased that your news is mainly good! You know depression literally means pushing down in analytic terms – repressing or repression.
When you are expressing (as you feel comforatble to do here on RB) yo are preventing repression from building up inside you to fomr resentment and bitterness – which in turn (I believe) aids illnesses along. Depression exacerbates a spiralling immune system…so good vibes and feelings creating endorphins (exercise can help) and adrenaline often does a little too (excitement) can help prevent immune systems getting worse(that’s what I belive anyway along with other eclectic or wholisitic practitioners)....

On a lighter note – how nice that you feel supported at RB – You are so supportive and envcouraging to so many newcomers Craig – you deserve it back!
When I ws new on RB you promited my work – I ws so touched and felt so welcomed by you!

Thanks and hope things keep going well for you…I am also going through a separation – selling a house – re-purchasing x 2 one for ech of us – 2 children involved – it’s a lot!!! But we will get there!!!

Hang in there Craig – thinking of you
    Suzanne:)
