Star trails around quarter moon. Photo was taken between 8 – 9pm in a paddock just outside of Hatherleigh, SA. Exposure 15min with my Nikon D60 & 18-55mm lens.

    Nice work. Not sure if you know but a camera pointing North or south with give you star trails light this, as in a circle. East/West and North side and south side will rotate against each other. Alot of other shots like this are taken with cameras set up to take numerous shots of a period of time.
    eg 30 sec exposure every 30 secs for 50mins. Then all of the shots are blended together in photoshop or some other editing program

    Yeah I did know that Marcus, thanks. It was a little too bright that night to get longer star trails and I find that wil my 18-55mm lens I really can’t zoom out far enough. One day I’ll get my hands on a 10-20mm lens and I think I will be able to compose the shot better. I also have a power adaptor so I am able to hook the camera up to a generator to get really long trails. I will try the other technique next. Thanks :)
