Art and creation has been part of my entire life. Commitment to the practice didn’t come until about 2003. In that time I’ve seen not only my skill and passion grow but also my willingness to give something more authentic and organic. Throughout my life with art I have known it be the access point to understanding my world and the form in which to best translate or process it. Many of my earlier pieces have an earthiness that I associate with grounded experiences and also in travel. I had the opportunity to travel quite a bit and saw those experiences show up, sometimes, quite literally, in my paintings. When my grandmother passed away, being that we were very close, my art changed. I had the blessing to take a key role in holding my grandmother’s space for her as she passed on and that experience, to say the least, lit up the spiritual part of my universe. This shows in all the work I’ve been doing that contain layers of translucency and gilded accents. The more abstract and organic of shapes also speak to the mystery and wonder I associate with that other part of myself.
