I really tried to get in the Christmas spirit this past week-end. The skies were gray and a tad-bit of white stuff fell but I just had trouble getting past football, football, football!
Saturday I went to the newspaper office to decorate the front window. I put up a pretty little snow covered village scene all across the back enclosure. I added small lighted trees on one side and on the other side I put up a life-sized stuffed Santa complete with a Mogul mascot head instead of the white bearded and red hat topped version. At his feet I displayed purple and gold pom-poms and four footballs. I will add a sign across the bottom that reads “Santa says that the Moguls have been very, very good this year!” That’s my Christmas spirit!
I’ve always loved football but this season has been EXCITING! My oldest son fought his way to a starting position on the Varsity team which has made my heart soar and even sometimes a little sore! Now they are in the play-offs and they flew above the competition at the Area level beating the Collinsville Pirates 63 – 0 last Friday.
Yes, we love our football in small town Texas. Our Pastor and his family were out of town for the Area game but they were kept well informed. They received 27 text messages during the 2.5 hour game with Collinsville – all of which related the most recent game stats! All the Mogul fans are proudly sporting new “Play-Off” T-Shirts and sweatshirts and we all looked quite stylish in our new Purple Santa Hats with the word “Moguls” embroidered on the white fur. Even my dog wore his new Mogul T-Shirt to the Pep Rally/Send Off on Friday. My daughter has ordered purple and gold face paint so we can really fix the little Hunter’s up for the next big game which is scheduled for Saturday evening. We have relatives driving in from about 3 hours out just for the game and will turn around and go back home at its conclusion. I can’t wait!
I must admit that I’m a little apprehensive about the next game. Our Moguls are facing off with the always tuff Roscoe Plowboys. Most news commentators aren’t even predicting the out-come of this one because it’s just such a toss-up. The one opinion that most folks share is that the winner of this game will more than likely advance to the state championship level. That would be a great ride!
Now, I know that both teams have practiced long and hard and that it is the dream of each team to go all the way. I know that there are good kids on both teams and that parents on both sides are praying that all the kids will stay safe and that their team will win. However, I’m putting in this one additional plug in my prayers “Lord, if it’s ANYWHERE in your will, then please help the Moguls beat the Plowboys. You know, Lord, that this would mean so much to Jay A. and you know his heart. Please keep the kids on both sides safe from injury and if we should happen to fall help us do so gracefully. Thank you and Amen. P.S. Go Moguls!”
So, if any of you readers have any pull with the Big Guy would you please consider saying a little prayer for the Munday Moguls.
Yes, I’m dreaming of a Purple and Gold Christmas!
