This is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it.
Well, I’m trying! I am glad that today wasn’t another repeat of Saturday when we had Tropical Depression Erin to deal with – about 6 inches of rain, high winds, etc. etc. I’m also glad everyone in the family seems healthy and happy. Yes, I’m glad for today but did we really have to deal with all these car problems on a Tuesday?
Tuesdays are our deadline day at all 3 papers plus all the others that we print. So, you know the old philosophy – if it’s gonna go wrong it’s going to happen on a Tuesday.
My husband’s Suburban has had a radiator leak for a while now. Yes, he tried to fix it a time or two but you know, there’s always something else to do. Sometimes there are ball games to watch on TV, naps to take on the couch, movies to watch for the 3rd time – and actually, there’s really a lot of work to take care of the rest of the time! SO – today the radiator had just had enough.
We live out in the middle of no where and one of our offices is even farther away from the center of nothing. So, I wasn’t surprised when I got the call this morning – about an hour after he should have been at the other office but wasn’t there, yet. He found someone to work on the car and limped back to another town with a radiator shop. (Oh, the joys of rural existence.) After four more hours of wasted deadline day he was back on the road but only managed to make it about fifteen miles when the cherished and money pit of a vehicle over-heated yet again!
Well, I’m also thankful for cell phones! A call to the radiator shop and the young man came to his rescue. Back to the remote office to send things over the internet (I’m thankful for computers!) so that they could get back to the main office and he was back on his way home after about another two hours.
Now, we only have to print out four newspapers onto negatives, take them to our press about thirty miles away, deliver two of our customers finished products (another 60 miles or so) and then finish the paper my husband should have finished this afternoon! It’s already about 9:00 p.m. so my today is running into tomorrow really quickly.
But, hey – I know things could have been worse so I really am counting my other blessings – I just can’t figure out whey God thought up mosquitos, snakes, and car troubles.
