ARE WE NOT BUT STRANGERS

Are we not but strangersgroping in the nightacross the ethereal voidreaching out to touch,be touchedthrough a tenuous, fragileconnection! We stretch our acheing fingersand our vulnerable heartshungerfor some recognition, solace, acceptance. We offer the nectarof our loveand the poisonthat is our pain, flowing deepwithin our ageing vessels, cutting usor soothing uslike the seasonal flow of rivers. We can’t extend our handto greet each other, nor can our eyes meetover a glass of wine. Are we not then but strangers……and yet……there is a familiarityin the sorrowful whispers I hear,in the songs that are sungthat make me danceon moonlit nightsor crythorns of desperation.I know your lamentand your passion, they beat an ancient tunedeep within me.I know your anguished painand the great beautythat sleeps in armoured sheets,I also share that bed.I can taste your sensuality,as a sweet, ripe peachkissing my lips…………and yet……are we not but strangers?

    It is difficult to say,
I’ve formed many loving friends online, some I’ve met in the “real” others I have not. Do I love the ones I’ve not met any less, no I do not.
So I conclude that the empathy, connection, blood, sweat and tears can be conveyed in the medium of writing.

    I am a romantic
The idea of writing letters and perhaps even falling in love through the process has happened throughout history.

    A wonderful piece,
    Thoughtful
    Thought provoking
    And beautiful.

    Oh and I love questions…

  • Thanks Lisa. Means a lot. Yes, I have met some amazing individuals online through this journey. I’m writing to one now. A whole new world has opened and I’m walking into it with a new step. You take care and don’t fall through the crack too often. I expect to read more great stuff from you. Cheers.

Oh this is soooo much truth sigh….It is easy to get caught up in this tenuous connection. As you said, with the familiar laments of the heart it is almost as if we know them already, yet they are only strangers.
Truly a beautiful write with a gentle soft flow. xoxo

  • Thankyou. Now you made my day. Appreciate it.

Oh, yes, most definately. I echo Lisa’s comment.
How could a poet not relate to other’s more easily through the heart/soul/being/core of another poet’s words, ether makes writing possible. I am more connected in many ways to those I can write to/for, than those real life friends, as my entire being resonated through words. it always has. my mouth is a tomb, my pen is an angel.
so…in conclusion…lol…yes, poet to poet, ether or not…writing to another writer is god speaking to himself.

  • Beautifully put. Love the last three lines….especially the end. Your access to the secrets is truly divine Kristin……thankyou for your comment. I do believe that I just realised how much I enjoy writing. I haven’t wrote for many years as I put my angel away a long time ago. Cheers good lady…may your angel allow god to keep on speaking to himself.

You write some of my thoughts….I am sure in my heart that I have made ’real ’ connections with like minded people. And so with putting my best foot forward with sincerity and honesty it is what I hope I am greeted with. I know that if I was to find out that someone was a total hoax that had taken me in and played with my heart strings…..I would be devastated. A stranger cannot devastate me….I am made of tougher stuff than that me thinks….x

  • Hello ArcadiaTempest. I have seen you in the corridors of RB and meaning to say hello. Good opportunity to share our journey. I do greet you with the utmost respect and sincerity. I have not had the opportunity to view your works but will now. I thank you for your sincerity and honesty……

This is beautiful and so true. Writing to someone rather than meeting them in real life is so very different as it seems as if your souls are meeting rather than the preconceptions and ideas we have about people when we look at them. I’ve got lots of friends I’ve met online and later on in real life (not all of them), but the connections formed online are often truer and more real than the ones we form in real life where there are so many more distractions.

  • Thankyou. Yes sometimes it’s easier when your alone with the thoughts and have a free flow with no distractions. Yes, the meeting of souls is also a good way of putting it. I have had some remarkable insights into this piece from many beautiful souls. I’m glad you liked it. Appreciate your comments.

yes, that is it exactly! it’s like making friends with ghosts – whose hands you can never grasp but whose voices bring you comfort when all other comforts fail. and in the ‘real’ world we project much illusion over those we meet anyway – who is to say which world reflects the most truth. a thought-provoking and inspiring poem!

  • Thank you. I appreciate your comment. Means a lot to me that you have taken the time. There is truth in all our worlds and in all our dreams….and there is illusion also. We accept the truths that are the most comfortable to us at any given moment in any given state. What we perceive and what we project is for us to know and if one is not true to oneself then how can one make a connection in any world. Bottom line for me is, if we in our search for truth do it to make a connection to one’s true self then we can make a connection to others….and visa-versa, for we all need to help each other to free each other from whatever may be our personal demons. Love your work. Thankyou.
