LOST LAST THOUGHTS by Cosimo Piro

LOST LAST THOUGHTS by

Destiny strikes,
lays my weary body
upon splintered crucifix
and thorny thoughts
crown
my tender skull
piercing,
forsaken words
flowing blood red
bitter,
warm,
stinging,
flooding eyes
and filling mouth
thick with choking
abandonment.

My pain
throbbing
love’s final exit
nails me down
in rusty disregard
and breathless prayers
between laboured,
shallow,
rapid,
slicing gasps
falls upon
divine deaf ears.

I hang here
with split,
flayed flesh,
vinegar wounds
trickling
water and blood
upon
waiting dust
with insatiable thirst
longing
for renewed life
within its barren grains.

My mortal world
darkening now
with shrouds
of blackened clouds
and stormy skies
approach
with shadowed ghosts
creeping
over gentle hills
and fertile valleys
casting
their intent
to take
my last stand.

I look across
a blood stained sea
of sanguinary souls,
fearful,
ignorant faces
to finally rest
my gravelled sight
upon sorrowful eyes
embracing me,
a pitiful son,
with compassionate tears
where love
carves salvation
from doubtful spirit.

It is within these tears
I find forgiveness,
within
the mournful salts
of loss
that hold memories
encased in sharp crystals
to eventually fall
upon sorrowful earth
nourishing it
with remembrance
and seasonal love
and solace.

Words and image make the marriage of reconciliation perfectly me thinks….tears wash the blood of misplaced destiny …xxx
Without the tears I just so feel we don’t have the full waters of the emotions .. x

I’m completely overcome by your evocative words here Cos, words not only suited to the time, but to so many lives. There are those who live in so much pain from betrayal, rejection, abandonment and who cannot find the path to reconciliation, His story is our story – as it was always intended to be – and in His tears and our own comes the forgiveness we seek for ourselves and others so we might find the solace you describe here so beautifully. One of the most moving combinations of words and image I’ve seen in a very long time. xox

  • I am honoured Lianne. Your continual support and time in reading and commenting on my words means a lot to me. The comments instruct me as much as your own beautiful words. I must say that the Red Bubble women are amongst the most wise and beautiful I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Many thanks to you Lianne. xoxo
