All heavenly powers, I entreat thine ears
To help grant to me what I hold most dear;
For at love’s beck do I make this prayer,
And in God’s name do I ask your care.
I beg not some change unto free-will,
But that something may ariseth, still,
That swayeth her heart back into twine
With the sorely tangled strings of mine.
And so also, hope, this servant prays,
That sometime soon wilt she return his gaze.
Of honesty, and of good intent,
For my soul is a-flight when to her is bent.
Moments spent without her are amiss,
For in them do I hear time’s steady hiss;
But when with her, and all seems bright,
Time standeth still, in away of Love’s might.
Most vile and wretched sins I have made,
But would she look pasted them, this have I bade,
And give me a chance for addendum of days,
Then would our Heavenly Father always have my praise.
For God, I know you listen with attent
To my poor begging in my aggregate lent;
Please help me to do what I can to be
That boy whom she once fell for in me.
And as I draw this prayer to a close—
Still hopeful that her love for me grows—
I beg that tonight she not fall short of breath,
And that she is protected from all ills and death—
And please, I beg, from her head to her toes,
That as truly I love her, happiness she knows.
