Gothic Rocketship by James Lyall
Clear

The Sir Walter Scott monument. The largest monument to an author anywhere. You can climb inside it up to the top which gives a wonderful lookout into the city. It is a huge, imposing edifice in the heart of Edinburgh and, for me, defines the city as a whole. It is because of this that I knew I had to go and visit.

I took several photos of and on it during the day, but came back in the evening for this shot. I waited for an hour or more for the light in the sky to become just what I needed it to be.

An early version of Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbird 3 :o)
This is a very nice shot.

  • Heh heh. I hadn’t thought of that. In fact, I haven’t thought of the Thunderbirds in a long time! Thanks for bringing that back!

    Thunderbirds are go!

    Beautiful. An amazing landmark.

  • All of Edinburgh is gorgeous, but this defines the city for me as a whole. As soon as I saw a picture of it from somebody’s Flickr gallery, I knew I had to go and visit it for myself.
