Ok so I kind of have this thing where I sit and draw houses…it’s kind of like when I sit and doodle, it’s one of the first things I tend to draw along with spirals and trees.
But this is not a doodle, I assure you.
This is the first project I did for my Illustration 1 class last year. We were asked to communicate our idea of a utopia.
My idea of a utopia is a world where we are able to travel whenever and wherever we want (and everyone will get along, no fighting because you’re entering someone else’s land!)
I came up with the idea of houses that could float on water, walk, and fly, so the possibilities of traveling would be endless. Plus, I like the idea of travel being available to everyone, because not a lot of people can afford to hop on the next airplane to Europe.
I also decided to juxtapose the concept of something old with something new…the new idea is the invention of these houses, while the old is the look of the houses, which are Victorian house inspired.
Rendered in watercolour, pencil crayon, and collage (I cut out the houses and pasted them to the illustration board).
