The First Division Monument stands 80 feet high and has a gilded bronze statue of a winged Lady Victory on top. It is located next to the White House’s south lawn in Washington, D.C., and is a memorial dedicated to those people who served and died in the First Division of the American Expeditionary Forces. It was originally built to commemorate those First Division soldiers who died in World War I, but in subsequent decades it has become a memorial for all First Division soldiers regardless of the war they served in.
