The Shaw Memorial by

Commissioned from the celebrated American sculptor August Saint-Gaudens in the early 1880s and dedicated as a monument in 1897, the Shaw Memorial has been acclaimed as the greatest American sculpture of the nineteenth century. The wall sculpture masterly depicts Colonel Robert Shaw and the first African-American infantry unit from the North to fight for the Union during the Civil War. The memorial is on a ten-year loan to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, where it was photographed.

very nice capture of the “indoor” Gaudens. In the thumbnail I was seeing in my feed , I figured you had caught the original on Boston Common across from the Statehouse at the perfect point of sunset to get the golden hue yo’ve gotten here.
