An Assassinated President

James A. Garfield was shot in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881 by Charles J. Guiteau, less than four months after taking office as the twentieth President of the United States. Garfield died eleven weeks later on September 19, 1881, the second of four Presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln and preceding William McKinley and John F. Kennedy. His Vice President, Chester Arthur, succeeded Garfield as President. Guiteau was convicted of assassinating the President and was hanged on June 30, 1882 in the District of Columbia.
This photograph is a silhouette of a statue of President Garfield on the grounds of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Thanks for the history lesson. I have been “into” history lately, reading several books on the Civil War and have moved earlier to the American Revolution. Great capture. Highly unusual to get the silhouette in the forground, but the dome in the background is fully exposed. Pretty damn interesting.—Steve
