The Washington Monument
The Washington Monument, a memorial to George Washington, the first President of the United States, is both the world’s tallest stone structure and the world’s tallest obelisk, standing 555 feet in height. It is also the tallest structure in Washington, D.C. The actual construction of the monument began in 1848 but was not completed until 1884, 36 years later. There was a long break in construction due to the Civil War and a lack of funding.
This photograph of the Washington Monument was taken from the Jefferson Memorial and the water it is reflected in is the Tidal Basin, a partially man-made inlet adjacent to the Potomac River.

VERY COOL REFLECTION, I LOVE REFLECTIONS, THE REFLECTION POND AT THE SAN JACENTO WAR MEMORIAL NEAR HOUSTON, IS SINKING FARTHER EACH YEAR. YOU CAN SEE IT IN MY PHOTO “LOOKING DOWN ON HISTORY”. IT BURST IT’S BANKS LONG BEFORE I TOOK THE SHOT IN 1982. BOB
Cora Wandel replied
Thank you Bob, nice to see that you noticed the split in marble which shows when they halted the initial construction and then some time later resumed the work. Hope you are well.

nice captured reflection.. quiet day it seems there… not alot of people but some.. cloudy day.. but the building does come out well lit. For me.. my taste.. that tree on left edge frame I like to see whole.. or even a trim of that parked car. Hope things are well with you.l
