‘Preservation’ is an illustration based on a myth about Buddha.

Legend has it Buddha was wandering through a forest in India and came across a starving tiger with her cubs. Rather than allow the tiger to devour her cubs, he sacrificed his own body to save the family.

He goaded them to do this by piercing his skin with the thorn from a rose bush drawing blood.
