I’m offering this image in memory of a magnificent animal that many visitors to the National Park Glencoe, Scotland, came to know as the semi-tame red deer stag that used to hang around a car park overlooking Loch Tulla.
The stag was a popular tourist attraction and was photographed by many – including me, as you can see. He was a magnificent, majestic animal, and never failed to impress.
According to The Sunday Post newspaper the stag was shot repeatedly with an air rifle around Hogmanay and was left to bleed to death. When it was found, it was still alive, but had to be put down due to its severe injuries.
I cannot comprehend why anyone with any feelings at all would do something like this.
Anyway, I just wanted to put this photo up to remember an impressive animal – I enjoyed admiring and photographing him. May he rest in peace.

There are some very sick folk out there. It is fortunate for them that there are laws preventing that sort of treatment being dished out to them.
Exactly. We still seem to protect perpetrators better than victims, be they human or animal.
Great image. I cant believe that any one could be so disgusting as to shoot this animal. We stopped at this exact spot two years ago and the deer was there with several others. He just walked around few feet in front of us..a magnificent sight. That was our first trip to Scoltand and I was just so amazed to get that close to the deer. Pity we cant find the people that did it and shoot them. A great loss for no sane reason.
excellent shot.
Well done.
Thanks for the comments!
I’m glad to know that there are others who are just as horrified about this as I am. So the world is not entirely made up of anti-social, unfeeling persons. Quite the relief.
