“A young boy watches from an empty window As his soul slowly dies. No one told him it would be this hard No one was there when he cried.” (MATTHEW LEWIS)
I painted this window from a photograph taken by my son of an old mudbrick, derelict and abandoned farmhouse on the road to Witsand from the N2 Freeway in South Africa. When I left South Africa two years ago, the building had all but collapsed apart from a few broken walls still standing. There was an air of sadness there that pervaded everything.
I used 350mm x 500mm Canson Pastel Paper with Schminke and Faber Castell Pastels.

Excellent Constance, love the window effect and the building brickwork, gives it reality.
Thank you for that lovely comment Keith, it was an old farmhouse built from mudbricks and when I saw it for the last time two years ago, it had collapsed and very little was still standing.
