Snowdrops and Snowflakes stand for hope and consolation. I’ve deliberately painted both of these beautiful little flowers for “S” because I could only grow Snowflakes in South Africa, and now I am able to only grow Snowdrops here in Canada. In both cases they are the very first harbingers of Spring and seeing them, one knows that Winter is now being ushered out. Luckily Swallowtails are found both here and there.
I have used Black Ink and Derwent and Faber Castell Watercolour pencils on 8” x 10”, 125 lbs Hahnemuhle Bamboo mixed media, acid-free paper.
THANK YOU TO THE UNKNOWN PERSON WHO BOUGHT A CARD FROM RED BUBBLE ON 19/06/2011.

I paint because I cannot do otherwise. I paint because if I don’t I become unhappy and sad. Most of all, I paint best the things that filled and fill me with joy and excitement, like the ocean and waves which I no longer can see nor hear now. During the long winter months I paint butterflies, they are symbols of what it felt like to fly away to freedom. And all the while, I continue trying to achieve what Matisse wrote, “I continue painting until the hand sings” .

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!!!

I remember that song when I was a little girl Bill, and how we all tried so hard to remember that word! Worse still, how we all tried to parachute from the roof after seeing the movie :-))) Thank you for this wonderful comment!

this is beautiful constance, and i think so far it is your best…. :))
Linda what a lovely thing to say, thank you :-) Perhaps you could help me by choosing what you think are the best 6 alphabet letters, and the 6 best butterfly and flower illustrations? Ted and I are having an exhibition in 2 weeks time and I do not know which ones to hang :-( If anybody else wants to contribute I will be very grateful! Thank you for that wonderful comment oxox

those snowdrops are so perfect and so beautifully placed. love it
That’s a lovely comment Marion, thank you! I tried to find dainty flowers which would be in keeping with the general theme of this alphabet, and I regretfully decided that sunflowers were probably not a good idea :-)))

How can we possibly choose? They are all delicious and practically perfect in every way:-)
It would be cool to see all of them displayed as a collage in a single large frame… the individual butterly and flower prints could surround it.
And I had a similar thing about spiderman.
Just how high was yer roof??
What a lovely thing to say Bill :-) Sadly I live in a place where the only framer asks too much money for mediocre framing for me to follow your brilliant suggestion! Your idea is awesome though, I might very well be able to liaise with the printer and create a collage once I have completed this alphabet project. oxox
