Bluebells and Butterfly by

I have chosen one of my favourite flowers for “B”, second in my series of the Alphabet with flowers and butterflies. They are something the British Isles are so privileged to have and I will never forget the armfuls I used to collect in the woods to adorn my very hideous bedsit in Birmingham one springtime when I first went to live in England for 6 months.

I have used Black Ink, and Faber Castell and Derwent watercolour pencils on 8″ × 10″ , 125 lbs Hahnemuhle Bamboo mixed media, acid-free paper.

About Constance Widen

I paint because I cannot do otherwise. I paint because if I don’t I become unhappy and sad. Most of all, I paint best the things that filled and fill me with joy and excitement, like the ocean and waves which I no longer can see nor hear now. During the long winter months I paint butterflies, they are symbols of what it felt like to fly away to freedom. And all the while, I continue trying to achieve what Matisse wrote, “I continue painting until the hand sings” .

    So gorgeous!!!!
I started the alphabet too, but it does not look as goog as this!!!
    Awesomeness!!!!!

  • Susan thank you so much :-) I must admit I wasn’t really aware of the challenge when I “Decided” that it would be a fun exercise to try out!!! They also take quite a lot of time which makes me wonder when I will finally finish the alphabet. oxox

You create such beauty with your pen…XOXOXO…Gina

  • :-) Thank you so much dear Gina. One of these days I am going to pull out my pastels again – withdrawal symptoms are starting to make themselves felt again which means that maybe I’m coming out of the doldrums at long last! oxox
