About Constance Widen

I paint because I cannot do otherwise. I paint because if I don’t I become unhappy and sad. Most of all, I paint best the things that filled and fill me with joy and excitement, like the ocean and waves which I no longer can see nor hear now. During the long winter months I paint butterflies, they are symbols of what it felt like to fly away to freedom. And all the while, I continue trying to achieve what Matisse wrote, “I continue painting until the hand sings” .

Stunning work Constance. I look forward to seeing “G”

  • Gabrielle thank you so much for your lovely comment! I am working on “F” at the moment, but I’m still not quite sure what “G” will be yet – it sort of evolves with each one :-)

Lovely! I’m doing something similar. :) There are a few Q flowers out there, I’m using Queen Anne’s Lace for my set but Quince was another option, X and K turned out to be tricky too!

  • Stephanie thank you :-) I thought of Queen Anne’s Lace and a couple of others, it just depends on how it looks within the framework of the Letter. Also what girl’s name would start with a Q? I agree with you about X though, maybe I will have to leave that one out or be extra inventive! I haven’t even thought of K yet, there is lots of work ahead I think. Then there’s the butterflies with names that start with the corresponding letter – Sheesh!!! What have I created here?

ooooh, now this is beautiful…. the dark colours work so well! x

  • Thank you so much Linda :-) This was quite a challenge for me because I used what I thought was waterproof black ink – EEERK! I don’t think I’ve fiddled about so much, EVER, and now that I am finished it, I certainly don’t think it looks like anything I’ve ever done before!! It actually reminds me of those old Victorian cards that were so stylised and serious. However, it’s been an interesting exercise and I now know how far to push ink and paint and, more ink and gel pens around :-D oxox
