“I have seen fire in the sky,” said Raven. “I have flown high in the sky and seen that the people living in the heavens are warm. I say we take fire from them and bring it back to earth.”
(HAIDA LEGENDS).
The fourth in my Raven Series, combining the indigenous peoples’ myth with the forest where we live here in Smithers, British Columbia, Canada on a cold Winter’s morning after the sun had just risen and hoarfrost covered all the trees.
I am deliberately not depicting the ravens that I paint as three dimensional. He was revered as an important deity and I have tried to portray him as a black, two-dimensional portal into the Infinite Universe.
I used 8.5″ × 11″ Canson Pastel paper and Schmincke, Sennelier and Unison pastels.
I LOVE THE EFFECT YOU HAVE OBTAINED HERE CONSTANCE! Wonderful work.
Thank you for your comment Lynda, at the moment the Raven seems to be controlling me!!! Joking aside, it is an interesting painting journey I seem to have embarked upon :-)
