Underneath the ruined & treacherous skeleton of Nocton Hall are a series of intact tunnels and basement rooms that were pressed into use as air raid shelters during the Second World War… One for almost every letter of the alphabet.

How the imagination fires though, when faced with the letter ‘X’…

x marks the spot, gulf war, air raid, hdr photomatix, torture room, nocton hall, shelter x, pure evil, fire hose ramp, derelict, gothic, decay, abandoned, urbex, doorway, tunnel, doors, hospital, wwii, ruined, disused, gutted, urban exploration

The estate i used to knock about on in Rochdale consisted of 26 blocks of flats …you know whats coming next don’t you ….
They were all reasonably named after towns Appleby, Buttermere, Croshill etc etc
for the X block they copped out though and named it eXford
