Born March 6 1976. Syracuse New York.
Eleven years ago, Michael Swatt built his first canvas in a basement and set to task on developing a business based on creativity. Two art galleries, a nonprofit organization and a high end nightclub later, he continue’s to produce and exhibit work while growing a reputation for professionalism in a creative industry. From corporate collections to live performance painting, Michael has the ability to consistently develop fresh ideas for a variety of applications.
Michael Swatt creates a system of patterns that can be read and understood as a continuity in relation to movement.
In addition to his “solo” work, Michael Swatt collaborates with long-term friend and fellow artist Mike Barletta. Both Barletta and Swatt are self-taught by way of New York City and Washington, D.C. museums, galleries and mentors and by working together in shared studios and “Live Painting” venues since they were both teens.
Barletta and Swatt combine 2 distinct styles of geometric and organic shapes composed over sweeping backgrounds, jumping from one canvas to the next building a dialogue. They work in a fast and fluid style, adapting to whatever situation is happening around them – a true reflection of their immediate environment is always produced. Their paintings are large, typically 5×6 feet in series of 2 to 5 pieces.
