Spoiler alert: If you would prefer to marvel at the images below in disbelief and amazement then please do not read on. In this post I’ll be revealing secrets that will enable you to fly, float and levitate. It’s a bold claim I know, but after a little searching, I’ve found the secret formula on the internet. You don’t need any magic lotions and contrary to what I originally thought, you don’t need to jump up in the air and take a photo really quickly, there’s no helium involved and you’re not required to perform dangerous acrobatics.
If you’d like to create images like these then the following tutorials will help you on your way. All it takes is a digital camera with a timer or remote (or a friend to help), a tripod or steady surface and some editing software like Photoshop or Gimp. These tutorials show how it’s done:
- How to float (video)
- Floating in Photoshop
- How to Create the illusion of levitation in Photoshop
- And for the purists: Floating sans Photoshop (requires a little more acrobatic talent)
If self portraits aren’t your thing, there are still endless creative uses for this new found skill. The dog, the cat, your friends, kids and pretty much anything you can put on top of something else can be a candidate for a little levitation. If you have some time to experiment over the next few days, we’d love to see the results so please share them in the comments below. Good luck!

I know! I haven’t been this excited by figuring something out since little planets. I hope people give it a try. It looks like it wouldn’t be too hard to get to grips with.

Great link to even more inspiration. This technique is for slightly lazier people but you could have some great fun with that idea! :)

Netmonk – I didn’t actually create mine the same as shown in this tutorial. This way appears to be MUCH easier. I really look forward to trying it out. And all of the street performers in the video -that is just too cool! Now I have to go find myself someone who can jump and dance like that because I sure will not be able to create an SP of me doing that! :)
