This Week ... by community

Posted on January 29, 2010

This week we admired artworks from these talented new artists:

And we enjoyed works from writers who have recently joined the RedBubble community:

Helene Ruiz is raising funds to help Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) with their aid effort in Haiti. She is asking artists from the bubble and beyond to donate works for a raffle which will be promoted at her current exhibition and all proceeds will go towards the cause. Many bubblers have already generously answered the call to donate artworks. If you’d like to find out more, please see Helene’s journal. The following images are by bubbler Matthew Dawkins who was part of the Ohio Task Force One Team sent to Haiti in the days following the earthquake.

  1. Dinni H’s work was featured in his local news paper in India
  2. zooreka’s work was chosen as picture of the week over at Painter Magazine
  3. Jeff Stroud’s work was exhibited at Beans Coffee House, Woodstown, NJ
  4. Jon Daly’s work was featured in Professional Photographer magazine

A reminder that the Solo Exhibition group’s Host Hullaballoo is wrapping up this weekend so don’t forget to head over and show your support to the hosts that have been featured.

This week we’d like to say a big thankyou to FlowersEtc (aka Ann). Ann helps out with hosting duties in an astonishing 20 groups and is a dedicated and helpful host. She shares useful hints and tips in her journals, leaves encouraging comments for other bubblers and is friendly and approachable and always willing to help out if someone has a question. Next month marks Ann’s second anniversary on RedBubble so we’d like to take the opportunity to thank her for all her energy and effort!

And last but not least, Mr Baxter awarded this week’s Buyers’ Booth prize to an artist who has chosen to adorn his office wall with an image from the Montreal Die In.

It’s been another busy week and we’d be struggling to squeeze any more news into one journal so it’s over to you. We’d love to hear your highlights from this week …

Never would have created that design if it hadn’t been for RB, so thank you!!

Wow, this is really one of the most exciting “This week”s that I’ve read. The new art you are showcasing looks wonderful! And the news of Matthew Dawkins Haiti hands-on help is humbling. Thanks for those photos. I look forward to more.

Helene Ruiz has a noble spirit and won’t stop ‘til the job’s done. I admire her greatly. I’m so happy for all those others I know mentioned here, too, including DinniH, Jeff Stroud, Zoo, the members of Solo Exhibition, whose works are shown in thumbnail, there, plus Karin Taylor,Vickie Emms, Skip Hunt, Anastasiia Kucherenko, FlowersEtc. It’s fun to see people whom I know recognized and accomplishing great things. Congratulations everyone.

Thanks too for mentioning the Host Hullabaloo finale. What fun everyone has had this month being in the spotlight. Weekly solo exhibitions start again, in our new season opening, Monday, with Ming Myaskovsky.

There are many members on this site I would like to take this opportunity to call your attention to. As a host of many dynamic groups on subjects as varied and multi-faceted as the members on this site, I am familiar with the beautiful work of many talented photographers and artists, a few of which I would like to mention here today. This is the short list by far and there are many favourites whose work I greatly admire who are not included in the list, as I do not wish to take up too much of your space so I will only mention a few, and for more you are invited to visit my watchlist.

First, if you have not yet seen my friend and cohost Ken Wright’s sensational seascapes, I encourage you take a moment and explore his portfolios. He is a professional in his field, a master photographer and his work is very beautiful. He and his lovely wife sent us one of his calendars as a Christmas gift and the beauty of his images so evident in print is beyond description. His calendar collections are gorgeous.

    Maria Draper
I invite you to have a look at my dear friend Maria’s personal website. She is a new member here on RedBubble and still building her portfolio, yet I have known her for several years and her travel photographs, landscapes, seascapes and forest scenics are very beautiful. For her work she has published on RedBubble so far, believe me when I say, the best is yet to come :)))

Here are only a few more of my favourite photographers and artists who are each a tremendous source of creative inspiration. Their profile avatars are live links, to visit their portfolio simply hover your mouse over their avatar and click on it to navigate directly to their homepage.

As I said before, this is the short list and I certainly don’t mean to leave anyone out. Those of you among my favourites who are not mentioned here as space permits, you know how much I enjoy and admire your work. To see more beautiful images of the many talented photographers and artists on this site I invite you to have a look at my watchlist and favourites.

Photographically, my week was okay – took some nighttime shots of London over two nights (pretty!), took photos from the crowd at the Premiere of The Last Station with Helen Mirren and my Lloyds Building photo came 5th out of 60-odd entries in a Pentaxforums competition on abstract architecture!

Great wrap!!! I’d just like to give a shout out to everyone who has been so supportive and inspiring to me over the past year here on the bubble, without you I never would have even tried half of the art forms I’ve now come to consider as my favourites, and without those, I never would have been given the fantastic opportunity that is coming to fruition in a few weeks, in the form of my first ever real-life solo exhibition. I want to say a special THANK YOU!!! to the wonderful Deborah McGrath who has been so generous with her support and her invaluable advice on how NOT to make a big hash of my first big event, Deb’s an absolute treasure in my eyes!!!
Thank you to all of you who make the Bubble what it is, this place is awesome thanks to you!

The letters of Vincent Van Gogh are in the Royal Academy and they are well worth a visit. An eternal inspiration. Learning to draw helps us to learn to see, although the `art world` seems a tad obsessed with breaking new boundaries, please remember that the old school of drawing is always relevent. For me there is little as pure as walking in this beautiful Island and seeking out the perfect place to paint, then returning home with a little study. This is an ancient timeless pursuit. Anyway this is my first ever blog and is just my view.
