You can get a sneak preview of the new home page direction here.
We would love feedback. It would be especially good if you can send it to a few friends who may not be familiar with RedBubble and see how they react. Ask them if the site would interest them. And what they think the site is about and whether they would likely explore it more.
We are trying to achieve a few different things including:
- Do no harm. The current page works quite well with a very low bounce rate (~10%) of people who don’t further explore the site
- Provide a clearer view of what products are available. A lot of people have said they see the home page and don’t understand what is for sale
- Entertain people. That is give them something interesting to click on
- Show that purchasing is an important way of participating in the community (but not by any means the only or most important way!)
- Provide a place where we can promote things like competitions, bubblewrap etc more easily
- Try and convey on a single page what RedBubble is about.
Thanks for any and all comments and suggestions. No promises except that everything will be read!

A tough set of goals to try to acheive, but your preview template looks very good. I like how so much more is easily accessible and right at your fingertips. And it’s much clearer.
sjem, 11 months ago
There’s a lot happening but clear divisions and the focus is still on work created by bubblers.
I have a small suggestion, I reckon a pure black background would really make the whole thing ‘pop’, and also be better for the environment, have you seen blackle ?
Jonathan Russell, 11 months ago
I’ve gotta concur with sjem on the black theme – That’s one of the things I like about the current layout.

+1 black coz it’s more metal \m/

Xavier – Who’s been standing on the gatorboard ?? It flashed up and then was removed, I”m amazed at how strong it is for the weight of it, amazing stuff.
fleece, 11 months ago
sorry if i’m not keeping up with already-announced changes but does that say inbox(0) up the top there? is that some RB private messaging thing?
dreeft, 11 months ago
+1 to user selected background colours :D

I like the look of the new homepage. Very much inline with the selling theme. It’s also fun looking and bright and professional at the same time. When can we have it???
ArtAfresh, 11 months ago
The entire layout appeals.
The larger thumbs an excellent idea, eyecatching, less is best!
The Buyers Booth is a winner, the human touch.
Congrats to those responsible for redesigning it all.
thelightseeker, 11 months ago
I like the new homepage project enough but I’d prefer a black background too!

This is great, thanks a lot community!
Lachlan Kent, 11 months ago
As was said… the current homepage is very appealling already. I think this is because of it’s simple and uncomplicated layout and design. Too many features on the home page makes’ your eyes skip around and not actually take stuff in well. Maybe there’s scope for working more off the current homepage (?).
JayVee, 11 months ago
It’s very appealing to see endresults of a product on top of the page like the framed prints, T-shirts and cards. I believe it will encourage people to look further. However, as Lachlan mentioned, don’t make it too complicated.
Di Edwards, 11 months ago
I like it! The only thing I think is missing is the tag feature under the pics. I really like being able to click on the tag link and see all pics of the same subject matter without having to type it in the search field.
I also think the black bg would look much better.
Jessica Shipard, 11 months ago
It is nice and fresh but i really love the dark background of the current one. Originality and organic simple shapes look fantastic on websites. I really like the frankie magazine website design (www.frankie.com.au) for this reason.
Overall I think it suits its purpose in having buyer appeal and is nice and colourful but not over the top. I welcome the change :)
nodakami, 11 months ago
I prefered the dark grey background.too. Too many white/pale backgrounds online.
Good focus on products, but indeed too many parts, I would remove the one just after the pictures (what’s the link between photography contest, creative writing and selling art ??).... but… wait ! Only 8 pictures ??!!!! Nahhh, we need at least 12.

Just iterating my earlier comment.
When can we have it???
DataShine, 11 months ago
I guess this will make me sound like the proverbial “wet blanket” . . . but to me it looks a tad cluttered , very “Corporate” and not at all “arty” . . . was the corporate look the intention?
Starr1949, 11 months ago
A question… Might you have a search button for Artists by name added?
Starr1949, 11 months ago
OOps already there on home page sorry!
blueclover, 11 months ago
Wow!looking good!!!
David McAuley, 11 months ago
Well done on the ongoing updates.
Its great to see the sales/buying element promomted.
I would have a preference for the Black background.
Also just wondering should the upper area start with the Greeting cards as the initial hook then, the ‘Framed Prints’ onto ‘T-Shirts’ .
marieancolie, 11 months ago
Good idea, but I will miss the black bacground :(
By the way, in the count of comments.. is it possible not counting photographer intervention on his/her own work.
I know this is not the subject.. but I don’t want to loose my idea :)
Christine Wilson, 11 months ago
I reckon stick with black background its what sets RB apart I reckon from similar sites ie flickr etc the rest of the lay out is excellent otherwise and more user friendly for the public
Christine Wilson, 11 months ago
others think the black makes the pics stand out more
Ian Yang (mitrm), 11 months ago
it looks a very business-like, can’t wait to see the final version.
Damian, 11 months ago
I’m ready to try a different colour scheme for the home page. Go for it.
Why is writing going to disappear off the top navigation tabs? I thought it must’ve been an accident at first, but ‘clothing’ and ‘community’ are still there.
dodgsun, 11 months ago
darker gun metal grey BG i think is a compromise between light grey and black….yeah!..
looks good but!!! love the layout…but change the top 3 to BUY postcards….buy prints…etc!!.
Splogy, 11 months ago
Looks great RB guys. I agree with Nodakami though, needs more than 8 pics to showcase what is in store for those choosing to look further. Curious about Damian’s question re: a “writing” navigation tab. I can see “creative writing” on the home page, but will you be able to choose it on other pages once you move from the home page? I haven’t been part of RB for long so rather excited that there is a new home page imminent already, hoorah RB team!
ozczecho, 11 months ago
Another one for the black bg. The space for the current “popular” images remains roughly the same which is good and also the fact you can buy stuff here stands out a lot more. Good stuff guys/gals…
seventeen, 11 months ago
nice direction.
would prefer black background too though.
but you know what – I love whatever you do RB!
gordontant, 11 months ago
I LOVE IT
one idea… are you able to have constantly rotating random artwork, tshirts and card views on the top three images for the links so designs get a viewing?
second idea keep the jet black background, makes all the other bits stand out more
TANYA WILLIAMS, 11 months ago
NO I LIKE THE BALCK THEME 2! EVERTHING ELSE WORKS FINE BUT I THINK THE BLACK MAKES THE WORK STAND OUT MORE! PLEASE KEEP
Joyce Dickens,..., 11 months ago
Outstanding layout – I do think the larger thumbnails are a big plus, but prefer the black theme – definitely a thumbs up! Big pats on the back to all involved….......

Writers – don’t worry about the absence of the writing tab, it isn’t really being removed, just isn’t in the mock.

Have shown the preview to several people now – had a couple of people say “a bit cluttered” but all recognised you could buy stuff. When shown the current hompage (after seeing the new one) they nearly all said they liked the current one becuase it had more art on it. So go figure?

Oh yeah, and got very mixed responses to milestones. Varied between “why would I care about those?” and “Oh, isn’t that a bit of fun”
Adriana Glackin, 11 months ago
Nice : )
Edward Gunn, 11 months ago
The preview looks great. Your remit for it sounds as if you have your work cut, but by updating the home page Im sure the site will attract more hits and make it easier for browsers to see what Red Bubble is all about. I have been with Red Bubble for less than a month and although I have sold some greetings cards, to family – I think they felt as if they should, what has given me the greatest buzz was recieving comments about my work.
sjem, 11 months ago
Jo’s put up some interesting points. You could lose the milestones area and have more room for art.
george1208, 11 months ago
Looks good to me.
simonj, 11 months ago
rather than having a home page of showcased pictures, why not have a link to a “showcase page”, that way the home page will not be cluttered with so much stuff….
Damian, 11 months ago
Thanks for the feedback on the Writing tab Kath! You’ve brightened my night up :)
Kerry McFarland, 11 months ago
Fantastic, I love it. It’s much clearer to the eye, what RB is really about, and maybe it will boost sales. I have to agree, that my first reaction was it looks a bit cluttered. Just food for thought, but a bit more negative space might draw you actually into the website further to explore.
Ozcloggie, 11 months ago
Is there a way to give visitors who have not joined limited opportunity to comment? I.e., to have some input?
Kim Roper, 11 months ago
How about a Homepage that is just negative space, with one central featured image of the day, and drop down menus or hover menus at either the top or the bottom, listing all the different areas of the site? Eg. http://www.a-p-s.org.au/.

We may experiment with more radical options on small sections of traffic once we get a good baseline working.
Geri Bragg, 11 months ago
I think it looks awesome. People I’ve asked have never heard of RedBubble until I told them about it. Maybe some sort of advertising to get more of an audience/customers to purchase ? The community of artists here seem to keep each other going by way of comments and purchases – the word needs to get out outside the RedBubble community so the general public can know there is beautiful artwork out there for sale !
Pepper, 11 months ago
Redbubble, truly, you folks are amazing. Kudos and accolades to you. Everything you all do is tops. I would like to put a suggestion into this wonderful feedback stew. Perhaps, having a section that denotes internationality. It could be as simple as a map or a listing of the different countries (via membership) and when one clicks on the country name (or map) some of the artwork from the area is viewable. It may add a bit of the “familiarity” factor; whether it be location or artist. It would also highlight that you have in roster some amazing international artists.
gordontant, 11 months ago
can you tell us all when we can expect to have this new all singing and dancing upgrade to the site
thanks
