The little old lady from Port-au-prince by

Photo by Idamise Pierre, the Washington Post, as seen it in the Sydney Morning Herald, 5 Feb 2011.

When the earthquake hit Haiti last year, the municipal nursing home in Port-au-Prince became a desperate place. The vulnerable elderly huddled in overcrowded tents and begged visitors for water as they found themselves left to their own fate.

Today the nursing home, located in a tough slum, is next to a tent camp filled with earthquake refugees and surrounded by gangs. The elderly are caught in a rift between the local administrators and the international aid community.

Soft pastels (Unison) and pastel pencils (Derwent and Stabilo) on A4 Colourfix paper.

You have the knack pour les veines, oreilles, mains et rides diverses….
Every time you post un dessin, I can’t wait to see the next one !

Biz

Beautiful work, especially around her lips and chin.

  • Nice of you to leave a comment David, thank you. Her skin worried me a little, it’s very wrinkled…. but it turned out ok.
