Le voleur de pastèque by Colombe Cambourne

Derwent and Stabilo pastel pencils.
Jasart soft pastels.
Tex mi-teintes paper in khaki colour.
A3

The photographer is Patti Madsen.
I don’t know the story behind the original photo or even where it was taken, but as I was painting it, I imagined a story: This little man could be an Afghan who stole a watermelon at the market and was caught in the act by the photographer. The look on his face says “Don’t dob me in, it’s only a watermelon!”

I am really impressed Colombe. You have mastered the pastels. This is excellent. A real first class work of art.

  • Thanks a lot Jim! This picture generated a lot of dust from the pastels but I didn’t mind too much because our house is being renovated at the moment and there’s a lot of dust anyway. I think I’m getting there with the pastels, I’m getting to understand how best to use them.
Thank you so much for dropping by!

I thought I messed up his fingers as I was doing them, they seemed to look so overly covered with wrinkles but the overall result is ok I guess.
Thanks a lot for you (very) generous comment, as usual Corinnette!
    Hugs
