Oils & Oil pastels on canvas.
I wasn’t happy about the way the paintbrush was not blending the colours together the way I wanted, so I used my fingers to do the job. The result is a bit too soft, too smooth to my liking, but that’s how it turned out, almost by itself. What more could I do?

So cool! Her expression is so lively!

  • Thanks Mino. This is from a photo and it’s easy to capture an expression for my painting, because it doesn’t change on the picture…

    Magnifique sourire, indeed !…..

This is a differet style colombe…love it! Bisous xx

  • Bonjour Estelle, well it looks like I’m falling into realism….. and I don’t want to! Hopefully, as I get more confident I’ll be able to loosen up. Biz

oh wow, what a clear, clean, beautiful skin, lovely painting. xoxooxox

  • Hi Jasmin and thank you. As I was saying to Estelle, I’m softening curves and colours when I don’t really want to, but it’s all part of the experience I guess.

I use my fingers half the time, when painting all my watercolours – moving the paint and spreading the water, to create a less solid look.
This is a nice look , smooth yes, but with an attractive subject, that is no bad thing.

    C’est magnifique sourire!

  • Colin, merci beaucoup!
It’s interesting what you say about using your fingers with watercolour, you would have to work really fast, but I had a look at the results and I think your paintings are wonderful.
Thank you for your comment and thoughts…

Thank you very much, merci beacoup, mon cher!

I just finished my latest one today, and it nearly killed me! Fiddling with it, ruining it …trying to get it back again!…. and finally – just leaving it, taking a quick photo and uploading!

    Amicalement,
    Colin

What a gorgeous portrait! The light and shading is beautiful. I found you by way of your lovely sister and I can see the talent runs in the family :)

  • Hi Alison! Thank you very much for this very encouraging comment.
Isn’t Corinne so talented? She seems to be able to whip up some drawing or watercolour in no time at all. It takes me ages to work on my stuff! As you can see we have a very different style. Now I’m going to have a look at your work.
    A la prochaine!

Letting the paint do the talking, that’s a good idea. A beach girl without the wrinkles. I like this a lot.

Hello “Pinkham”! I don’t know if she’s a beach babe (looks more like Barbie to me) but she’s too perfect without wrinkles. I want to paint her again with very definite strokes.
    Thanks for your comment.
