Neon Canyon

A jewel located in the remote canyons in the Escalante Desert of Utah.
Known as the “Golden Cathedral” of Neon Canyon..
To give a sence of scale, this alcove is about 50ft high.
It was one long day hike that was worth every step.

Gorgeous place. Is that all natural light or did you have to light it?

  • Nick Johnson replied

Its all natrual. Bright daytime sun lit the canyon outside of the cathedral so waht is illuminating it is all reflected light. ;)

Great shot. I must get there someday

  • Nick Johnson replied

The hike back is quite an ass kicker. 1000ft gain with about 400 of that in the sand.
We pulled it off in 61/2 hrs round trip which is apparently really good. (so says the locals)
Neon Canyon has got to be one of the most beautifull places I have seen down there. You wont be dissapointed!
    Thanks Steve!

Gorgeous image, Nick. Love the lighting and the reflection and it looks like there’s a hole in the wall. Escalante is a great place for photos. Spent some time there last year and going again this year. Amazing vertical view with lots of interesting texture. Great composition.

I did this hike, but I actually started 3 miles back on the road because my car couldnt make it, lol. Wonderful shot!

  • Nick Johnson replied

Yeah the road was a bit hairy in places. I am glad you still made it.
    A really beautiful place.
    Thanks Michael
