Royal Spoonbills Windswept by

From my original pencil drawing.

Royal Spoonbills are found throughout Australia more commonly on the coast but also in well-watered inland areas. Periodic flooding of the outback usually triggers intensive breeding – as in 2010/11.
These birds become even more striking in their breeding plumage with long head plumes and with their otherwise spotless white plumage washed with buff.
These two birds were observed in the Shoalhaven River estuary, NSW.

About ColinWilliams

I am an amateur naturalist and artist who has won some awards and done a little teaching. I combine these two interests to portray some of the birds which I see almost daily in and around the estuary on which I am privileged to live – the Shoalhaven estuary on the south coast of New South Wales. I also paint still-lifes and landscapes.
